Can You Outrun a Poor Diet? Food Transportation Specialists Weigh In

We don’t mean to brag, but food transportation is a pretty big deal. I mean, how else could you reliably get your favorite chicken tenders from Raising Cane’s or your favorite gas station sushi from the corner convenience store? (Something we recommend ONLY when carried by Eagle Express.) People rely on food transportation. Chefs, caterers, restaurants, and even regular folk who just like to eat (we see you!), all expect their favorite eats and drinks to be available to them when they want them.

That’s made possible in part by great food transportation specialists like Eagle Express. Our on call couriers can move time sensitive foods in as little as 45 minutes. Whether you have large food distribution loads or small food transfer needs, we have the right vehicle and the trained professional for the job.

We take food seriously around these parts, and so should you! Because food is an essential part of our overall health. But just how much of a role does food play in our wellbeing? And is there a way to still indulge in our favorites and workout to make up for it?

Our food transportation specialists weigh in on the age- old question: Can you outrun a poor diet?

Understanding Caloric Needs

Before you can understand how food impacts your body, you need to understand the concept of calories. Calories are fuel. They aren’t a bad thing! Your body requires calories to function, even when you’re not exercising. In fact, we burn about 50 calories an hour just sleeping! That means you’re likely to burn about 400 calories while snoozing in your comfy bed. Everyone’s caloric needs are different. They’re dependent on your daily activity, age, and metabolic rate. You can get specific with a calorie calculator like this one from the Mayo Clinic, but you can generalize by saying most adults need around 2,000 calories.

Too Many Calories from the Wrong Sources

You know you need around 2000 calories, but how many of us know what that looks like? It’s really easy to meet- and then exceed- your caloric needs when you eat junk food. This makes sense, considering some of the tastiest foods are high in fat, calories, and sodium. Indulging in these kinds of foods adds up those total calories quickly! You’d be shocked to know how many of your favorite foods contribute to your caloric intake in ways you never expected. This article from Insider magazine will give you a whole new perspective!

Sticking to your specific caloric needs is tough when you meet your max calories with food that is not nutrient dense. These high calorie foods often leave you feeling hungry for more, literally! While but your body doesn’t need more calories, it might need more quality nutrition. This leaves your overall wellness at stake.

Can Exercise Make Up for It?

The short answer is no: exercise cannot make up for overindulging in the “wrong” foods. When you don’t ingest key macronutrients that your body needs for the day, such as protein, carbs, and fats, as well as essential vitamins and minerals, a long run isn’t going to solve your lack of nutrition.

Secondly, it’s a lot easier and faster to eat the calories than it is to burn them off. For example, one donut hole (not even the whole donut!) has 52 calories. This would take 15 minutes of walking the dog to burn. Medium French fries come in at 400 calories, which would take you 32 minutes of kick boxing to burn off. Unless you have all the time in the world, you won’t be able to exercise to make up for poor eating choices. Not to mention, without proper nutrition, you’d quickly find your body exhausted and susceptible to fatigue and illness.

Everything in Moderation

The best method? Enjoy life in moderation. Eat the cookie, but stick to one. Get your exercise, but don’t let it be your day’s intention. Find joy in sitting at the dinner table with friends and family, and be conscious about what you put in your body, because your body is with you for the rest of your life!
