Taco Bout History

The idea of tacos started long before we began calling them such. Mexicans, before the Spanish invasion, were known to eat soft, flattened corn tortillas filled with meats. It wasn’t until the 18th century that tacos began making their way mainstream. Miners used to take them as portable lunch to the job site, earning the name “tacos de minero”

Tacos got their start in America as immigrants brought their tasty combination with them when looking for work in states like California and Texas. This portable and economic treat was new to Americans who were intrigued by and hooked on their spicy flavors. Learn more about the history of Eagle Express food delivery right here.

Taco Bout Style

Lettuce, cheese and sour cream weren’t originally part of the Mexican cuisine. The fusion of Mexican and American styles led to the taco we know today. But many other taco styles exist throughout the world. Try one of these tasty, regional combos on National Taco Day:

  • Baja California Fish Tacos- Battered and fried white fish, slaw, and lime

  • Lebanese Al Pastor Tacos- Spit roasted meat, marinated in spices and slow cooked to shred, topped with chopped onion

  • Texas Barbacoa- Texas barbecue meat, topped with cheese and tomato

  • Tacos Al Carbon- Thin sliced meat like chorizo or chicken, smokey grilled with veggies

  • Navajo Frybread- Puffy dough, flat and topped with meats and veggies

  • Italian Piada- Flatbread, folded like a taco and filled with meat and cheese

  • Korean Style- Not authentic Korean, but, instead, a fusion food, corn tortillas are filled with Korean-inspired dishes like bulgogi and kimchi

  • Breakfast Tacos- Believed to have originated in Austin, tortillas filled with egg, bacon, and cheese
