February is National Heart Month. Seeing as Eagle Express Dallas Courier is celebrating 41 years of service, we think it’s the perfect time to remind you that YOU- our Dallas logistics clients- are the heart of our organization.

Since it is National Heart Month, and we do LOVE our clients, we’re going to focus this blog on heart health.

Here are 8 steps to a healthier heart for National Heart Month:

 

  1. Quit smoking- Cigarette smokers are 2-4 times more likely to develop heart disease than nonsmokers. Smoking increases the formation of plaque in arteries. So don’t smoke, or stop smoking if you do. That includes vaping and e-cigs!

  2. Get moving- Adults need 150 minutes of vigorous exercise each week. So get out, enjoy the beautiful weather, join an exercise class, or go for a swim.

  3. Maintain a healthy weight- Holding on to those few extra pounds is detrimental to your overall health- including your heart. Talk to a doctor and come up with reasonable and appropriate weight loss goals, then work towards that healthier weight.

  4. Know your numbers- Blood pressure is a vital tool in measuring heart health. Know your BP, and know how to discuss it with your doc. If you are diagnosed with hypertension or prehypertension, do what is recommended to manage your blood pressure for the long term.

  5. Talk to your doc- The only one who can diagnose heart disease, or pre-heart disease, is a medical professional. Stay up to date on those check ups, and be sure to review your concerns or lifestyle changes with your doc.

  6. Eat your fruits and veggies- Heart health has a lot to do with what you put in your mouth. Reduce your sodium intake- which you get from prepackaged foods- and load up on heart healthy fruits and veggies. Limit trans fats, saturated fats, and added sugars, too!

  7. Woo-sah-  Stress less and reap the benefits of a healthier heart. Stress increases cortisol, the hormone that gives us that fight or flight mode. It also leads to weight gain, which is a contributing factor to heart disease.

  8. Get some rest- Not only does sleeping reduce stress, it also gives your body time to regenerate and heal. Sleep also gives you more energy to do things the right way the next day- like exercise and prepare healthy meals.
