5 Things You Shouldn’t Ignore During Spring Cleaning

In fact, we’re so passionate about a clean and sanitary delivery that we’re passing along some info you can use as you make a clean sweep this spring.
As you kick off spring cleaning season, don’t forget these 5 spots:
Under the Bed
Yes, scary things live there, but not the Boogeyman. It’s dust bunnies and tons of allergens! Remove everything from under there, vacuum, and, if you have wood floors, dust. Cleaning under the bed (or under other furniture for that matter) can reduce the sniffles. Hey, you might even find things you’ve been missing.
Medicine Cabinet
This is an important and often missed task. Check the dates on your meds. Discard anything past its expiration date, as meds lose their efficacy past their date. Anything that is discolored or has a poor taste or smell can go, as well. Remove any identifying labels on prescriptions. Dissolve pills in a bag full of water with kitty litter or sawdust to discourage curious pets or kids. Or find a safe drop box at a participating pharmacy.
Office
Did you know your mouse has more germs than a public toilet? Bacteria love mouths and noses- which are in close proximity to your computer and desk area. Not only that, how often do we wash up before and after touching our keyboards? Start by unplugging electronics. Use compressed air to blow out dirt and crumbs. Then use a cotton swab dipped in alcohol to get into the nooks and crannies. Lastly, use a microfiber cloth to wipe down the screen.
Fridge
When is the last time you moved your fridge and cleaned under and behind it? Guilty! Move your fridge away from the wall and use a mix of water and vinegar to clean the wall. Then vacuum and mop underneath it. Next, tackle the inside. Remove drawers and shelves one by one, closing the fridge in between to avoid too much of a temperature increase. After all, we know how important temperature control is! Then use a mix of bleach and water to gently clean and dry the shelves and drawers. While you’re at it, do a check for foods that might have expired.
Washing Machine
Wash the washing machine. We know. Ironic. But totally necessary. Many machines have a “Self-Clean” function, which is great! Add one cup of baking soda and a quart of white vinegar right into the drum. Scrub the inside. Then run it on the hottest or “self-clean” function. Don’t forget the filter. Yes, your washer has a filter. Check your machine’s user manual (hello, Google!) to avoid a dirty mess on the mud room floor. While you’re at it, clean out the lint trap in your dryer. Use a vacuum to get way down in there where lint likes to hide.
Spring cleaning isn’t just about the obvious coat closets and floorboards. Don’t ignore the details. As our Dallas healthcare delivery experts know success is in the details.
When we’re moving your time and temperature sensitive healthcare items, details matter. Keeping your products at the right temperature, handling the sensitive items with care, and protecting patient privacy while in transport are all our top priorities.
