Residential Deliveries Increase as Local Couriers Shift Strategies

Eagle Express, Residential Deliveries

Over the last several months, folks around the world have drastically changed their daily operations. Homemakers are now homeschoolers. Nurses and doctors are now front-line soldiers. Restaurants are now to-go locations. Employees are now remote workers.

These COVID-19 strategy shifts lead to one thing: increased time at home.

Organizations across America are now operating remotely. That means employees need their technology, paperwork, projects, and even lunches transported to their homes. That’s where Eagle Express can deliver!

As a local courier, Eagle Express has shifted operations to the residential level. While we aren’t working from home, we are assisting other North Texans, and even those outside of our state, as they work from home.

Consider these shifts in strategy for local couriers as we all navigate the changing landscape of deliveries in the wake of COVID-19:

Modified Delivery Types

Couriers are still serving the same industries: healthcare, food, and retail; but the demand has changed.

Some industries have reduced their delivery requests. Deliveries to learning institutions have halted completely, as schools and daycares are closed. Restaurants are modifying their normal delivery schedules to accommodate reduced demand and to-go orders.

Other industries jumped in delivery requests. STAT medical deliveries, for example, have increased around the nation. Between PPE requirements and urgent lab results, HIPAA certified delivery teams are on the go 24/7. Same day shipping requests are also in the rise, for various reasons, including last minute corporate deliveries as well as transportation of personal items.

Change in Delivery Location

More deliveries than ever are moving to and from residences.  eCommerce has boomed during the lockdown; customers want their goods delivered to their doors so they don’t have to go shopping in person. Businesses are also hiring local couriers to transport sensitive documents, technology, and products between the central organization and employees dispersed throughout the region.

To accommodate the modified delivery types and locations, couriers are utilizing less-than-truckload transportation. The freight market is stalled, but the need for small, more frequent shipments, especially the final mile segment, has increased.

Increased Safety Practices

As local couriers deliver to more residences, sanitization efforts must increase. Moving from house to house means opportunities to come in contact with many new people. Transportation professionals like Eagle Express, though, know how important it is to disinfect vehicles, maintain proper hygiene, and wear PPE.

For our safety and yours, you’ll find our couriers wearing masks and gloves, and diligently cleaning vehicles after each delivery.

Limited Contact

Couriers have also changed their customer service strategies. Normally, we appreciate a strong handshake and some small talk with our clients, but these days contactless delivery is the way to go.

Customers can place their order online using our logistics planning and tracking technology, and they can leave instructions on how to drop off deliveries as to avoid direct contact with the delivery driver. Our team has shifted our strategy for delivery confirmation, foregoing signature capture and, instead, using photo proof of delivery.

Other ways to reduce contact include not sharing supplies and flexible work hours- which are two things Eagle Express drivers are utilizing to avoid contact with one another and with customers on the go.

Worldwide, the attitude towards the pandemic has been this: adapt to survive.

As local couriers that serve the DFW Metroplex and the continental United States, we, too, have had to adapt our business model in order to survive. We’re listening to our customers and accommodating their changing needs. As our clients shift strategy, so do we.

One thing we won’t abandon, though, is our steadfast commitment to customer service. No matter the current world events, Eagle Express stays focused on quality service, guided by the principles of integrity and honesty.

Let Eagle Express be a part of your changing strategy.
